italienne :
« Bellissima ! »

I take photos the same way I paint
Like my illustrious predecessor the marvelously tender eighteenth century
painter Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin, who "painted the glory of everyday things",
to my eye, nothing is "everyday": it's the way we look at things that make them sublime or dreary.
Photographs are made first with the heart, with the assistance of the experience and the technique
that are there to help. As once again, Chardin said, "Colors are put to use, but painting
is done with the feelings." I make every effort not to forget that, in order to
interpret what I see the way I might a musical score. What is done
without love is bootless and empty.
Lyon, this magnificent city I am so fortunate as to live in, comes to me
as a daily source
of inexhaustible amazement, as much in the wealth of its heritage and its geographical
make-up as in the nearly Italian or Flemish ight that have it shimmering with
the time of day and the season.
So, like J.M. William Turner,
I take delight in the wonderful light that brings everything to life and
makes them glisten in my eyes, never the same, ceaselessly new and full of
surprises. I don't hunt for anything, I just open my heart and senses to
everything that can reach them. In fact, the image chooses me.
And makes my Italian soul cry out:
"Bellissima!"

_When I don't have much time to take photographs my way, I often turn to others for a fix, and sometimes some inspiration. Georges is such a person.
When I first saw Georges beautilful images on the SigmaDslr forum of DPReview.com, I was hooked. The wonderful colors, striking composition, and the volume which he produces were simply unbelievable.

The above link is a gallery of his latest series. Which is a joy to go through. You can find all kinds of fun and surprises in this gallery. It has brought me lots of enjoyment when feeding Matthieu late at night. Go take a look, and you'll find that the man you see in the shot above matches his images perfectly.
And don't forget to browse through his entire gallery if you have the time. It's worth it.
Thank you Georges.

Outstanding book!
I have known Georges for some time. He is a gracious person with an outstanding sense of color. This "love story" about his home city reflects this grace and sense of color in every way. It is a warm and wonderful portrait of a city often forgotten among the many other more flashy French urban areas. Lyon: Bellissima! is a wonderful read and, more importantly, a wonderful and vibrant vision.

Georges ...the captions and their translations were the icing on the cake! The wit and good humor are ever-present, and his ability to make cross-language puns is nothing short of delightful (and impressive; my French is not what it should be, but I detected a few of them, and the fact that he's doing it also in English, and a few of them are completely interlocked between the two languages is just amazing.)
But not as impressive as the images themselves. I told my wife that going through the book was a bit like eating Thanksgiving dinner every night for a week...sometimes you just have to slow down and take it a one at a time...

What can I say to you Georges? I am basically speechless.
I just received your book today and am totally awed by it. Very nice, actually, fantastique!
I used to do graphic design besides photography, music and poetry, and the choice of layout and the very dark blue background color work very harmoniously together. Great job!
It does indeed look like a book done with a film camera. There is really nothing much digital about it. And that's why I like it so much. Non-digital feel digital.
And that's why we all enjoy Foveon and Sigma so much!
Congrats!

George Noblet's book arrived - I am giving it away as a gift to my mother.
First impressions are that the quality of the book is excellent. The images just pop off the page. Colors are accurate and intense. Gutters are perfectly matched. The print job is definitely first rate.
This is an excellent piece of work. I am very glad I ordered it.
I am proud to say, "Hey, I've conversed with that artist!"
It is truly a masterpiece.
